Whether your job title is program manager, executive director, or head cat-herder, the reality is you are not just managing a Main Street program. You are also managing a nonprofit organization with a board of directors, by-laws, and rules, deadlines, and never ending need for money.
Leadership has been defined as "a process of social influence in which a person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task." (Wikipedia)
Take a breath and look inward for a few minutes and think about your own leadership competency and style. Who are you?
“The way you envision your role as executive director (your “mental model”) shapes everything you do, from your relationship with your board, staff, and funders to the way your budget is put together; even the physical layout of your office space can be affected by the way you think of your role in relation to other staff and the organization as a whole.” (https://www.tsne.org/)
This four-step approach (four points? really?) to figure out your leadership style is outlined in this 8-page document from Third Sector New England MissionWorks (the first three pages can be skipped). Happy downloading!

Take the Meyers-Briggs Personality Inventory ($49) for insight into yourself. Yes, you have a personality type and, no, there are no wrong answers. Main website for Meyers-Briggs. Free version here (warning: it’s free so who knows what results you will get).
It would be interesting to learn Main Street directors have more in common than they don’t.
Facebook allows you to create a custom profile picture + a custom frame for your organization’s page. With an assist from Canva, you can easily create a custom profile.
Here’s how: Go to Canva (link above)
Create new design and select CUSTOM // key in 1080 x 1080 for the dimensions which is the Facebook profile specification.
Upload whatever logo or art you wish into the square shape, but remember that Facebook will CREATE A CIRCLE out of it. You can insert your own circle to help you with the design and be sure to keep all art inside the circle. That whole thing can become your frame. Download as a transparent png, save and then upload to Facebook profile picture. Voila!
Facebook has a link for creating a custom frame as well and, once made, the template should be shareable with your fans. CREATE A CUSTOM FRAME HERE.
There are so many options for information on social media post sizing. So why is it so hard to find the best one? Well, here’s a couple of short-cuts.
Constant Contact has a great link on sizing for all social media platforms.
Need help with online design? Google has you covered. Now if you only had a day or two to play with each one.
Selling tickets online? We probably know the top 2-3 used by most of us. Google had a few that may be new to you.
Pixels are different than inches. Here’s a converter shortcut in case it helps you visualize sizes.
Canva is a graphic designer platform for the common (wo)man. You can create good-looking posts for virtually every platform plus flyers, etc. You can create your own custom Zoom background, too.
Pick out one or a whole new palette of colors for your branding or project on Color Hex, W3Schools, or multiple others just by searching for hex palette guide.
If you have something you use that you find easy and, best of all, free, post in the comments please.
